Salmon fishing

Fishermen has been made welcome at Hembre Gaard since 1890. The fishing was pioneered by Englishmen but others soon followed. Just as the salmon find its way up the Stjørdal River, so will visitors from all around the world find their way to this special place.

The beat at Hembre Gaard stretches for approximately 1 1/2 miles along both banks of the Stjørdal river and can be fished by a maximum of 10 rods. The season starts on June 1st and closes on August 31st.

Fishing goes on around the clock. Permits are available on either a daily or weekly basis. Both spinning and fly fishing are allowed (no worms). As a rule, guests staying at the Motel take priority in the allocation of fishing permits. In July and August the emphasis is on fly fishing.

Hembre is reputed to be one of the top beats for salmon and sea trout on the River Stjørdal, with both swift water and deep pools. Salmon around 15-20kg are mostly available early in the season, but these catches can also be done the whole season. Fly fishing tuition can be arranged during the month of August, and a gillie to guide groups can be hired upon request. There is also the possibility to fish in saltwater on the Fjord from our own boat with outboard engine which we rent out to guests.

One of the old storage houses in the farmyard includes a sitting / Tv-room for guests where many photographs and other items illustrating the fishing history are on display
